VLC is a free and one of the world’s most famous open-source multimedia players and streaming media server developed by the VideoLAN project It is cross-platform and can play virtually all multimedia files as well as Audio CDs, DVDs, and other different streaming protocols.

VLC is available for desktop operating systems (Windows, Linux , Mac OS X) and mobile platforms, such as Android, iOS and iPadOS.
This blog describes how to install VLC mediamedia player on Ubuntu 22.04 LTS. Also tested on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS and Ubuntu 18.04 LTS

VLC can be installed as a snap package via the Snapcraft store or as a deb package through apt.

How to install VLC
multimedia players with apt

Step.1 Open terminal by press CTRL + ALT + T

Step2. Update your Ubuntu 22.04

vikash@vetechno:~$   sudo apt update 

Step3. Installing VLC with apt

vikash@vetechno:~$   sudo apt install vlc

 
Whenever a new version is released, you can update VLC through the command-line or your desktop Software Update tool.



How to install VLC multimedia players with snap

Step.1 Open terminal by press CTRL + ALT + T

Step2. Update your Ubuntu 20.04

vikash@vetechno:~$   sudo apt update

Step3. Installing VLC with snap

vikash@vetechno:~$   sudo snap install vlc

The VLC snap packages are regularly updated with the latest security and critical bug fixes.

In order to launch the VLC player, enter the relevant keyword in Ubuntu Dash and click the VLC media player icon, as displayed here:
